Professor

The work from my lab (& collaborators) stands at the crossroads of clinical relevance and molecular precision, in extensively studying genetic polymorphisms linked to diseases like multiple sclerosis, gliomas, and colorectal cancer, and unveiling how inflammatory genes (e.g., IL-6, TNF-α, IL-10) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) contribute to the pathophysiology of these conditions in the ethnically unique Kashmiri demography. Lately we have ventured into computational biology and vaccine informatics, leveraging machine learning and epitope prediction algorithms to design multi-epitope vaccines against emerging viruses like Zika and SARS-CoV-2. Our translational approach bridges traditional wet-lab science with modern in silico modeling.

I have guided numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, and played crucial roles in academic governance, such as overseeing admissions and curriculum planning for the Department of Biotechnology.

With over 2,000 citations, an h-index of 24, and dozens of peer-reviewed publications, our group continues to contribute deeply to scientific knowledge.
